Roof Restoration

Roof Restoration

The roof serves as a protection against the harsh weather and a cover for when we rest and sleep. Because it stands at the top of the house, it is the first to be affected by the likes of heat and rain thus wearing it out. Over time it loses its colour and eventually starts weakening in certain areas. This often leads to cracks that allow water from rain to accumulate. To combat this, roofing services will be required to help seal the crack and other possible problems.

Roof restoration not only beautifies the roof but also increases the length of the roof’s life and can be used as a preventative method for weakened roofs and other possibly major problems in the future.

Our roof restoration process begins with cleaning the roof using high-pressure water hoses that can wash away any kind of dirt clinging to the roof tiles. This also allows us to note the areas with loose or fully detached tiles that may cause leaks. After the cleaning, the tiles can be pointed before being painted over. This process can take time depending on the material of the roof tile. There are three common types of roof materials: concrete tiles, terracotta tiles, and a metal roof. Here are some of the methods we used for domestic properties.

Concrete tiles will need to be pressure cleaned to remove any bridge caps left behind. If there is any, we just re-bed it. Before we re-point the ridge caps, we need to remove the old mortar to give the ridge caps a cleaner slate. Once finished with repointing we apply the primer coat over the roof. You can recoat the roof with a colour of your choice.

Terracotta tiles require an environmental-friendly solution that can remove lichen, algae, and moss before we use the high-pressure hose. We make sure that we don’t miss a spot to prevent any further growth. After using the solution and high-pressure hose, we can apply the same method used for the concrete tiles.

A metal roof is a little more challenging as we need to treat any rust we bust by grinding and then applying a rust converter, a solution that can remove rust. Before applying this, you need to be 100% sure that the area you’re applying it to is pure rust otherwise the area applied will end up becoming sticky. When you’re sure, the solution will make that area moisture resistant meaning it will prevent further corrosion. Next, we locate any sheets that are beyond repair using a rust converter solvent and replace them. The next task is a little more tedious as we locate nails or loose screws that have rusted and carefully remove them. When finished, you can apply a primer coat, let it dry, and recoat it with your colour choice.

To clean the roofs of commercial properties, it will require experience and extensive knowledge. Both of which Roofing Northern Beaches can provide. Depending on the size of the property, it may require a team of five to eight people to get the job done. Before tackling this challenge, we will need to coordinate with the building’s owner to schedule the days needed for cleaning to ensure that no one will be affected by the solutions needed to clean up the roof.

For domestic properties, it may take a team of three to five an average of two to three days to get the job done. Each day a different task to achieve, for example, cleaning and bedding on one day. Repointing if there is enough time left. The next day can be used to seal and coat. Apart from the size of the roof, we will need to assess the weather conditions as well.
